Aqua Dechlor Instructions
- Connect to water system fire hydrant or blow-off.
- Extend fire hose.
- Place the end of the clear tube within the bucket containing the desired de-chlorination agent.(only use liquid or powdered agents)
- Insert the blue tube into the hole on the side of bucket. Tube should extend into bucket far enough to take samples from.
- Completely open needle valve (Located on clear tube)
- The blue tube is for sampling the water before it's treated. Also, to fill the bucket with water when mixing with powdered agents. If using a pre-mixed solution, (such as Captor) where water is not needed for mixing, blue tube would then be for water sampling only.
- Open hydrant, or blow-off, as much as safely possible. Sufficient flow is necessary in order to create a suction of the chemical. On average, 1/2 to 1 gallon per minute of agent will be consumed. If using powder, continue adding into bucket as needed. Amount will vary based upon chlorine content, and water discharged.
- Take test tube and 2oz. sampling solution (yellow cap) supplied with kit. Take water sample from discharge. Place a couple drops of the sampling solution into the sample. If the color appears red, orange, or yellow decrease water flow, and/or increase chemical feed by adjusting the needle valve. If the color appears clear, increase the flow of water and/or adjust needle valve. (The yellow cap chlorine sampling solution can be purchased at any pool supply, or most local hardware stores.)
- Red sample means a high chlorine residual. Orange is less, then comes yellow, then clear.
- The object is to achieve clear, just shy of yellow. This is accomplished by adjusting the water flow, the needle valve, and the chemical strength. Constantly monitoring.
- Test the discharge often to make sure that the water is clear, and that the discharge meets residual chlorine. The testing strips provide accurate residual readings, as needed.
- When the blue tube sampling is clear, de-chlorination is complete. Note: If the discharge continues to sample yellow, test the water supply source. It's common for the feed supply to have a tint of yellow. You can only match the source.
- When Working with your chosen de-chlorination agent, follow all safety guidelines stated by its manufacturer. Contact your local National Waterworks, Hughes Supply, Ferguson, Etc. to learn more about available liquid or powdered agents. We recommend Liquid Captor (Calcium Thiosulfate) as it is ready for use.
- Aqua-Dechlor is designed for de-chlorination of water only.
- Fire hose and diffuser must be connected in order for unit to work properly.
- Your kit comes complete with adapters to join to 4", and 2-1/2" hydrant outlets, and a 4" NPT adapter. Use this adapter to bushing up or down, if necessary. Custom bushings can be made, however, it's recommended you purchase locally.
- When storing, rinse bucket, then place the PVC tee into bucket first. Then place the unit in next. Then place in misc. parts. Finally stuff in the hose and place lid.
Warning: Always wear eye protection when working with chemicals. Follow all instructions as stated by the chemicals Manufacturer.
